Dad? Daaad!

DAD walks into the room. The piercing light from the doorway illuminates the foot of the bed.

DAD walks over and sits down on the bed. He yawns.

DAD
What's wrong, champ?

KID pulls his covers closer to himself.

KID
Daddy, could you check for monsters? Under my bed?

DAD
Alright, but you gotta promise to go to sleep after.

DAD reaches over to the bookshelf and picks up a TEDDY BEAR. He gives it to KID and ruffles his hair.

DAD gets on all fours and lifts the blankets that obscure the underside of the bed.

(Reveal OTHER KID under bed)

OTHER KID looks back and shivers.

OTHER KID
Daddy, there's somebody on my bed.

Cut to black.

The Story

I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, “Daddy check for monsters under my bed.” I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, “Daddy there’s somebody on my bed.”
